What is Black Forest Cake?
The traditional Black Forest cake has three or four layers of chocolate sponge cake, cherries soaked in Kirsch liqueur, and , which is actually sweetened whipped cream. The cake is also covered with the same cream, and topped with dark chocolate shavings and some extra cherries for decoration. Kirschwasser (cherry liqueur) can be used to flavor the whipped cream, and to brush the sponge cakes which will make them moist and flavorful.
Historians believe that Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte, which is the proper name for this dessert in German, originated in the late 16th century in the Black Forest Region (Schwarzwald), located in German state of Baden-Württemberg. This region is abundant in cherries, and famous for the cherry liqueur known as Kirschwasser-in translation-cherry water.
My Gluten Free and Egg Free Cake
Flour and eggs are essential ingredients in the original recipe, but in today’s video I’ll teach you how to make delicious, yet easy to make gluten free and egg free chocolate sponge cake! Isn’t that awesome?
To make it, you will need only one bowl and a whisk, and you will whip it in a couple of minutes! Next, I’ll make some light white chocolate mousse that I’ll pour over my sponge cake, and when the mousse sets, I will top it with beautiful cherry jelly, and white chocolate whipped ganache. I will decorate my cake with dark chocolate shavings and beautiful fresh cherries. Yum!
