evil’s Food cake is a rich, dark chocolate cake that gets it deep chocolate color and flavor from large quantity of cocoa powder.
The first recipe for Devil’s Food cake appeared in 1905. According to John F. Mariani, author of “Encyclopedia of American Food and Drink”, the cake recceived its name “because it is supposedly so rich and delicious that it must, to a moralist, be somewhat sinful, although the association is clearly made with humour”. Intriguing, right? :)
How to Make Devil’s Food Cake?
First I will mix cocoa powder with hot coffee and stir until I get cocoa paste. Then, I’ll add sour cream. I will cream butter and sugar in a stand mixer fitted with paddle attachment until I get fluffy mixture. Next, I will gradually add eggs and mix to combine. I will add cocoa paste to the mixture, and finally the dry ingredients. Once my cake batter is done, I will evenly distribute the batter into four molds to get uniform layers.

When my buttercream is done, I will fill my cake layers and decorate the cake with it. Finally, I will make a small batch of ganache and pout it onto the finished cake, because – more chocolate is always better – at least if you ask me! ;)
